Critical Listening

Our ear / brain listening system is still the most powerful “sound analyzer” we have, and our listening skills improve when we are intentional about developing them. We’ll talk about how we perceive sound and some techniques for ear training, and listen to a variety of audio samples and discuss what makes them great mixes – or not. We’ll focus on listening deeply from both an artistic (musical) and technical perspective and present ways we can practice this, as well as learn to recognize various mixing techniques and apply them practically in our live worship sound environments.

Attendee Takeaways

  • Tools and tips for ear training.
  • ideas and methods for preparing to mix
  • music appreciation
  • keener sense of listening deeply, and ways to continue practicing and applying this skill.
